Transmission lines interconnected by way of tower or pole are referred to as power grids. Or otherwise known as “The Grid.” Considered eyesores to some, questioned as to whether the voltage causes health problems in the area where they stand, the power lines are responsible for transmitting energy into our homes. At least for most, there are those who have gone completely “off the grid.” Power is transmitted from a nuclear power plant to a substation,  where it is then transmitted through the lines to a transformer, to power poles and then into your dwelling. The recent oil spill in the Gulf should have us contemplating even more alternate sources of energy. Wind farms, equally controversial, derives its source of energy from mother nature when she sighs creating wind.  Power lines will connect to the wind farms transmitting energy more cleanly. One thing is for certain, they aren’t leaving our neighborhoods any time soon.
